Nikki & Nikki – Hospital Response Volunteer Advocates – National Volunteer Week

April 14, 2025

During National Volunteer Week, we’re excited to recognize two of our volunteer advocates, Nikki and her best friend, Nikki. Both are employees at Community Health Network —a Firefly corporate partner —where they discovered the opportunity to make a commitment to volunteer for Firefly’s Hospital Response team together.

The two Nikkis were in search of a way to give back and support their community, so when they came across the role as a Hospital Response Volunteer Advocate through Firefly in ’Community’s volunteer portal, they quickly felt compelled to help.

Hospital Response Volunteers take on-call shifts and respond to Indianapolis hospitals to support survivors during a sexual assault forensic exam. Volunteers listen, believe, and support survivors. They’re equipped with training, materials and education around survivors’ rights and resources prior to partaking in the role.

Nikki and Nikki describe that being with survivors can be emotionally challenging, both sad and maddening at times.

“It’s amazing to be able to provide support and be that person who offers comfort during an unfathomable time in someone’s life,” they reflect.

Although the role is an independent one, the two friends offer mutual support beyond their volunteer activities, showcasing their shared commitment and compassion in assisting survivors of sexual assault together.

Thank you for your advocacy and support, fueled by your amazing friendship!
