Central Canal turns blue for Child Abuse Prevention Month

INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2022) – Peggy Surbey, Regional Manager of Marion County Department of Child Services, Tina Cloer, president/CEO of Children’s Bureau + Families First, and Marlin Jackson, prevention partner and former Indianapolis Colts cornerback, honored Child Abuse Prevention Month by dyeing the Indiana Central Canal blue.

“I have a passion for the work we do in Marion County regarding child abuse prevention,” Surbey stated. “I fully believe every child deserves a carefree and happy upbringing, free from abuse and neglect.”

With the canal turning blue, DCS and Children’s Bureau + Families First hope that community members are reminded to report suspected child maltreatment as well work toward elevating the children and families.

“The most important thing we can do is advocate for families by providing professional support and the identification of resources to promote family well-being,” Cloer said.
