Lilly Endowment Inc. has made a $900,000 grant to Firefly Children and Family Alliance to support capacity-building efforts during the next three years.
The grant is one of 28 grants totaling $41 million that are designed to help human services organizations and community centers in central Indiana enhance their ability to meet the needs of the individuals and families who they serve.
Firefly will use the grant to sustain and strengthen our array of domestic violence and survivor services. The grant funding will enable Firefly to provide a more comprehensive offering of services to survivors of domestic violence to better meet the needs of the community by supporting survivors as they break free from partner violence, navigate challenges, and address the trauma they have experienced.
During the next three years, this special operating support grant will allow Firefly to impact the lives of 2,500 survivors each year. Our focus will be on proactively addressing gaps in services in underserved communities, making the community more aware of the help that is available and expanding service offerings geographically. Every person deserves safety and respect, and the programs offered by our Survivor Services team are designed to help survivors achieve those.
“Firefly Children and Family Alliance is thrilled to be chosen to receive this grant to support the growth of our domestic violence programs,” said Tina Cloer, President and CEO of Firefly. “Firefly is among just a few providers that go into the community to meet survivors where they are, which we will be able to expand due to the generosity of Lilly Endowment. We are deeply grateful for their investment in our work with the survivor community.”
“Indianapolis has a robust network of organizations dedicated to helping people overcome challenges and begin to build satisfying and self-sufficient lives,” said Ronni Kloth, Lilly Endowment’s vice president for community development. “These agencies help Indianapolis be a more compassionate and caring city, and we hope these grants help strengthen their ability to meet the demand for their critical services.”
Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based, private philanthropic foundation created in 1937 by J. K. Lilly and his sons, Eli and J.K. Jr., through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. While those gifts remain the financial bedrock of the Endowment, the Endowment is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff and location. In keeping with its founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education, and religion, and it maintains a special commitment to its hometown, Indianapolis, and home state, Indiana.
