So I wanted to take a few minutes to give you the 411 on the ABCs of FC. For some reason, these seem to be on the DL, so oftentimes you have to guess what they *might* mean. But they don\u2019t need to be on the QT\u2026so here\u2019s is your starter list for talking to those already in the Foster Care world, or when joining online support groups, reading blog posts, etc.<\/p>\n
ACV \u2014 Alleged Child Victim (identifier in some states surrounding Indiana for a child who is the alleged victim of abuse or neglect)<\/p>\n
AD \u2013 Adopted Daughter (this can also have a number behind it to denote her age)<\/p>\n
ADD \u2013 Attention Deficit Disorder<\/p>\n
ADHD \u2013 Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder<\/p>\n
A\/N \u2014 Abuse and\/or Neglect<\/p>\n
AP \u2014 Alleged Perpetrator (identifier in some states surrounding Indiana for a person [minor or adult] who is alleged to have abused or neglected a minor child)<\/p>\n
AS \u2013 Adopted Son\u00a0(this can also have a number behind it to denote his age)<\/p>\n
BD \u2013 Birth Dad or Biological Dad<\/p>\n
BF \u2013 Birth Family or Biological Family<\/p>\n
BM \u2013 Birth Mother or Biological Mom<\/p>\n
CASA \u2013 Court Appointed Special Advocate\u00a0(a person appointed by the court to advocate for abused or neglected children; this is a volunteer role)<\/p>\n
CFT \u2014 Child and Family Team (made up of DCS Family Case Managers, family members, and any other professionals and providers involved in the family case.\u00a0 In some cases, the foster family and pre-adoptive family is included on this team.)<\/p>\n
CFTM \u2014 Child and Family Team Meeting (a meeting of DCS, the family, and any professionals providing services to the family, generally to review the progress of the case and consider recommendations.)<\/p>\n
CW \u2013 Case Worker<\/p>\n
DCS \u2014 Department of Child Services (a state agency that is in charge of social programs, including those for children in foster care) This is the name in Indiana. If you know foster parents in another state, they might use one of these other names and acronyms:<\/p>\n
DV \u2014 Domestic Violence<\/p>\n
ED \u2013 Emotionally Disturbed (a term defined in United States Federal Law used for children with such severe emotional problems that adversely affects their ability to learn in an educational setting)<\/p>\n
EPSDT \u2014 Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnotic and Treatment (the type of comprehensive physical health examination required by Medicaid for children in foster care)<\/p>\n
FAS \u2013 Fetal Alcohol Syndrome<\/p>\n
FASD \u2013\u00a0Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder<\/a>\u00a0(the physical, neurological and mental birth defects caused by a woman\u2019s consumption of alcohol during pregnancy)<\/p>\n FCM \u2014 Family Case Manager<\/p>\n FC \u2014 Foster Care<\/p>\n FD \u2013 Foster Daughter\u00a0(this can also have a number behind it to denote her age)<\/p>\n FH \u2014 Foster Home<\/p>\n
