In 1994, after marrying her late husband who was deaf, adoption was their first choice before a natural pregnancy. Though\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Doris<\/span>\u00a0and her husband\u2019s mission was to adopt deaf children, there was always the possibility of adopting children with additional needs.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">On Memorial Day 2017, Cory, who is on the Autism spectrum, was removed from his parent due to significant instability in the home. With two ABA therapists on both sides of Cory, and DCS following behind him,\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Doris<\/span>\u00a0led Cory through the doors of what is now his forever home.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cIt was pretty intense,\u201d\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Doris<\/span>\u00a0reflects.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">10 days into Cory beginning to settle into their home,\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Doris<\/span>\u00a0learned her husband\u2019s terminal brain cancer was back, heightening the intensity of the new family dynamic. We used to have carpet on the walls to protect the walls.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Today, incidents like this only happen once or twice a year.
