A parent\u2019s role is one that requires skills and information to be successfully carried out. Often, well-intentioned but uninformed parents make decisions that can negatively impact their child and family for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Firefly Children and Family Alliance\u2019s parenting education program equips parents with skills to deal with the many unknowns of raising a child. Our experienced and caring instructors help guide you through the developmental needs of your child, as well as strategies to effectively manage challenging behavior. Because each period of a child\u2019s development requires certain tools and strategies, we offer different classes for specific age ranges.<\/p>\n<p>Our parenting education program seeks to help adults within our community become better prepared, better-informed parents. This program is also offered in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.24.2&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h4>Safe Sleep<\/h4>\n<p>Safe sleep is among the most important factors for new parents to master. Safe sleep can help protect babies from dangers including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other dangers, including choking and suffocation. The goal of our safe sleep training is to decrease the number of infant deaths caused by unsafe sleep practices. Safe sleep classes are offered by Firefly Children and Family Alliance once a month. Individuals who participate in our safe sleep class receive an infant survivor kit, which includes a pack-n-play, a wearable blanket, a pacifier and take-home recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h4>Stewards of Children<\/h4>\n<p>This free program is scientifically proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors. Appropriate for any adult, this training will teach you how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. We offer this two-hour program as a group training led by an authorized facilitator. The program is designed to help participants ages 15 or older to monitor the effect of false societal beliefs that can cause otherwise caring and helpful people to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide alerts and to practice the talk steps to move past these three barriers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training:<\/strong> Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a two-day workshop designed for members of all caregiving groups. The emphasis is on teaching suicide first aid to help an at-risk person stay safe and seek further help as needed. Participants learn to use a suicide intervention model to identify individuals with thoughts of suicide, seek a shared understanding of reasons for dying and living, develop a safety plan based upon a review of risk, be prepared to do a follow-up and become involved in suicide-safe community networks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Question, Persuade, Refer Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention (QPR):<\/strong> QPR is a two-hour educational program designed to teach people the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. Gatekeepers can include anyone who is strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide, including parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches, caseworkers and police officers.
