{"id":40268,"date":"2025-04-14T11:56:29","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T15:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fireflyin.org\/?p=40268"},"modified":"2026-06-26T14:46:50","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T18:46:50","slug":"ari-finding-a-voice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fireflyin.org\/cnh\/resources\/news-library\/ari-finding-a-voice\/","title":{"rendered":"Ari: Finding a Voice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CW: Sexual Assault, trauma<\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-40269\" src=\"https:\/\/fireflyin.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Survivor-Services-Stories-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"668\" height=\"976\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cI physically lost my ability to speak for a few days after this happened, and it&#8217;s been a long theme of trying to find my voice again, and trying to have the right people in my life to help me find my voice again,\u201d Ari, a survivor of sexual assault, said while reflecting on the aftermath of the trauma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ari felt overwhelmed by all the paperwork and resources she was getting when a volunteer advocate from Firefly handed her a stress ball, sitting with her while going through the entirety of the procedure.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The goal was to give her something comforting to hold onto, reminding her that she wasn&#8217;t alone and that she could still find support through Firefly, beyond the doors of the emergency room.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The therapist Ari was seeing prior to the assault was unable to help her with what she was now experiencing. She noticed that her usual support system outside of therapy wasn&#8217;t very helpful either.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ari contacted the group that gave her the stress ball a few weeks after the assault. Her voice became a very necessary tool to reclaim her power.
